Hi, my name is Em Brandenburg, and I am a dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Ohio. I believe taking the first step towards therapy, in any stage of life, is one of the most challenging and most rewarding steps one can take in this world. Therapy can be intimidating and exciting all at the same time, no matter what brings you to my office. I am here to walk alongside you on the path that is meant for you. Hopefully, you’ll bring an open mind and a desire for meaningful growth. I will meet you where you are in a safe space with compassionate care and empathetic understanding.
I am experienced in working with children, adolescents, and younger adults navigating many different emotional and mental health challenges. I understand the intersectionality of the human experience. Many people face a variety of challenges that one singular focus or too narrow of thinking may not benefit them as well in the therapeutic process. My clinical focus expands to include out of control emotions, anxiety, depression, ADHD, neurodivergent thinking, trauma, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and women’s and other minority-related issues.
To best assist you, I have trained experience with several evidenced-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Developmental Repair Play Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. In our sessions together, the therapeutic experience can be tailored to fit your needs. I will encourage and empower you to make sustainable changes towards the goals and growth you want to see using a strengths-based and grounded, mindful approach.
My education background includes a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelors of Science in Family Science (Child Life Specialty) from Miami University, as well as a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Xavier University. In my personal time, I enjoy connecting with my friends, family, and pets, as well as building self-connection through music, art, reading, writing, and moving my body in the gym or in nature.
Together, we can gain insight, understanding, and acceptance in the growth you are looking for. Together, we can take the first and following steps towards a life that includes more than just surviving, but instead, a life of thriving. I hope to see you soon.
